Herman Walter Azinger, Jr., 76, of Montrose, IA, died Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at his home.
He was born on December 30, 1931 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Herman Daniel and Loretta Elizabeth Moran Azinger. On February 28, 1953, Herman was united in marriage to Patricia Jane Cook in Montrose, IA. She preceded him in death on June 17, 2001.
Herman graduated from Montrose High School with the Class of 1950.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict.
Herman had been employed at Chevron Chemical in Ft. Madison, IA for twenty six years, retiring in 1986.
He was a lifelong member of the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose, IA.
Herman enjoyed going fishing with his family, camping and traveling. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and St. Louis Cardinal fan. Herman was a loving father, grandfather and brother and cherished the times he spent with his family.
He is survived by three daughters, Teresa (Terry) Umthun and her husband Mike, Kathleen (Kathy) Azinger and her friend Sandy, Tracie Youngquist and her husband Wayde all of Montrose, IA, one son, Michael (Mike) Azinger and his wife Lora of Montrose, IA, nine grandchildren, Scott Umthun, Katie Sciumbato, Aaron Umthun, Dalton Umthun and Lonnie Clark, Amanda and Brett Azinger and Dana and Derek Youngquist, four brothers, Tom Azinger and his wife Barb of Cedar Rapids, IA, Richard Azinger and his wife MaryAnn of DeWitt, IA, William Azinger and his wife Sheila of Montrose, IA and Roy Azinger and his wife Liz of Mesa, AZ, and one sister, Donna Tabbaa of Montrose, IA.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several uncles and aunts.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 24 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montrose, IA with Father Troy Richmond officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Montrose Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Special Olympics or the Lee County Hospice.
