Obituary

Herbert "Herb" Eugene Schutte, 83, of rural Kahoka, Mo died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at his home. He was born on February 23, 1929 in Rural Clark County Missouri the son of Lawrence H. and Catherine Mary Shuman Schutte. On July 18, 1953 Herb was united in marriage to Carmelita R. Boudreau at the Shrine of St. Patrick, St. Patrick, MO. She survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Janet A. Koltun of Springfield, IL, Nancy C. Greer and her husband Ron of Quincy, IL, Joan E. Ruhs and her husband Greg of Hamilton, IL, Ann K. Sturm of Kahoka, MO and Barbara K. Alber and her husband Otto of Shelbina, MO, three sons, Gerald F. Schutte of Kahoka, MO, John A. Schutte and his wife Dayle of Grand Island, NE and Daniel J. Schutte and his wife Cathy of Canton, MO, grandchildren, Kristen and Zachary Greer, Kyle, Sara and Evan Schutte, Nicholas and Danielle Ruhs, Amanda Frankel, Tanner Schutte, Andrea, Adam and Anna Sturm, and Matthew Alber, one great grandson, Blake Myers, five sisters, Mary Rose Prior of Quincy, IL, Rita Burn of Springville, NY, Ruthanna Garrison of St. Louis, MO, Joan Rodis and her husband Ted of St. Louis, MO, Jane Styczynski of Augusta, MO, two brothers, Dennis Schutte and his wife Doreen of St. Louis, MO, Joseph Schutte and his wife Mary of LaGrange, MO four sisters in law, Hilda Schutte of Macomb, IL, Patricia Schutte of Loveland, CO, Emma Danker of St. Patrick, MO and Patricia Boudreau of El Cajon, CA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Edward and Paul Schutte and twin granddaughters, Erin and Erica Alber and three brothers in law, James Prior, R.F. Garrison and Pete Burn. Herb graduated from the Shrine of St. Patrick High School with the Class of 1946. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and served his country proudly. Herb was a lifelong farmer in Clark County, MO and a Knights of Columbus Insurance Salesman for 18 years, and also worked for the Clark County ASCS office for numerous years. He was on the board of directors of the Lewis county REA from 1987-2005 and was also on the board for Northeast Power. In 1977 his family was named the American Royal Missouri Farm Family of the Year. He received state farm management recognition by the extension division of the University of Missouri. He was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick, St. Patrick, MO and a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in starting the first bloodmobile in Clark County over 40 years ago because a fellow Knights of Columbus member needed a transfusion of blood. In May of 2001 Herb set a new record at the Kahoka Bloodmobile by donating his 15th gallon of blood. Herb enjoyed the history of Clark County especially the St. Patrick area. He was a very social outgoing man who never met a stranger. Most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Shrine of St. Patrick, St. Patrick, MO with Father Nicholas Reid and Father Tom Alber officiating. Burial with military rites was in the St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Shrine of St. Patrick Cemetery Association, the Clark County Food Pantry or the Lewis County Food Pantry.
