Helen A. McVeigh, 99, of Montrose, IA formerly of rural Keokuk, IA died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, Iowa. She was born on September 21, 1907 in Hancock County, IL the daughter of Lewis and Mary Gregory Greenslaugh. On August 18, 1922 Helen was united in marriage to William Leo McVeigh in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on April 19, 1990. Helen worked at the Keokuk Pickle Factory in the late 1920's. Following that she helped her husband on the farm and was employed for 20 years at Sheller Globe in Keokuk. Helen was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose, the United Methodist Women and the Montrose Senior Citizens. She was a member of Prime Timers of the KSB Bank and enjoyed many lunches and bus trips with the group. She was an avid quilter, making many quilts for family and friends. She was one of the Montrose quilters from the Catholic and Methodist Churches who had weekly quilting meetings to work on quilts. Helen loved flowers, gardening and the St. Louis Cardinal baseball games. She will always be remembered for her African violets, crocheting, quilting and crafts. She is survived by one son, James Robert McVeigh and his wife Mildred of rural Keokuk, two daughters, Dorothy Lucille Junkins of Chino Valley, AZ, and JoAnn Rooney of Cedar Rapids, IA, 19 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren, 26 great great grandchildren, ten step great-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-great-grandchild. nieces, nephews and cousins. Helen was also preceded in death by one son, Richard McVeigh, one daughter, Elice Stockwell, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five brothers, Everett, Clarence and Frank Greenslaugh and two other brothers in infancy, two sisters, Jessie Stoddard and Letha McVeigh, and three sons-in-law. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Rev. Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose, IA.
