Helen Marsh, 95 of Phoenix, AZ formerly of Keokuk died Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Phoenix, AZ.
She was born December 26, 1918 in Mount Carmel, PA the daughter of a coal miner Stanley and Josephine Koka Slavenska. She was united in marriage on February 12, 1941 in Canton, MO to Chester Marsh. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1984.
Helen graduated from Southeastern Community College in Keokuk.
She had been employed as a nurse's assistant at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA for twenty five years, until her retirement in 1985.
Helen was a volunteer at Keokuk Area Hospital auxiliary and had volunteered many hours for the hospital. She was a member of TOPS.
She enjoyed reading mysteries, playing Bingo and card games, especially Euchre. She loved traveling and had been on two cruises. Helen loved her family and was a surrogate grandmother to her great-nieces and nephews.
Helen is survived by one daughter, Patricia Marsh of Phoenix, AZ, two sons, Larry Marsh of Springfield, VA and James Marsh of Phoenix, AZ and numerous nieces & nephews, great- nieces and great- nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Hawthorne and Mary Kearns and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Father Robert Lathrop officiating. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m., Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with family meeting friends from 6-8 p.m. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society or Heart Association.
