"Loving Wife, Mother & Grandmother" Helen I. Gustavson, 89, of Keokuk, died Thursday morning September 18, 2014 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on May 3, 1925 in Springfield, IL the daughter of Harry and Juanita Hardin George. On May 12, 1946 Helen was united in marriage to Gordon R. Gustavson in Athens, IL. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2013 Helen was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk. She was a wonderful cook and baker and always enjoyed cooking for her family. Helen was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family deeply and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren. She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Sparrow and her husband Carl of Jonesborough, TN and Peggy Peterson and her husband Doug of Keokuk, two sons, Robert Gustavson and his wife Patty of Aurora, CO and Dan Gustavson of Keokuk, five grandchildren, Tamara (Michelle) Hoffstatter, Tim (Heather) Hoffstatter, Wendy (T.J.) Croissant, Adam (Christy) Sparrow and Tyler (Kaisie) Peterson, several great grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, one brother, Larry (Midge) George of Springfield, IL, one sister, Bonnie Boggs of Riverton, IL, two sister-in-laws, Carol Eden of Morton, IL, and Vera Edwards of Springfield, IL. Helen was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Coy and a brother, Harry "Chet" George. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Rev. Missy Brown officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Area Group Home or the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk.
