Hazel Vera Blum, 82, of Kahoka, MO died Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka. She was born September 2, 1931 in Bear Creek, MO, the daughter of Ray Ernest and Ada Loretta Anderson Foglesong. She was united in marriage to Forrest Dale Blum on July 16, 1949 in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2002. Hazel graduated from the Wyaconda High School with the Class of 1949. She was employed by the Clark County Counsel on Aging as a cook for many years. Before that she had worked at Morgan Oil in Alexandria, MO and Motorola in Quincy. She was a founding member of the Kahoka Red Hat Grannies and was known as the Queen Mother. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Wayland. Hazel was a nurturing person and truly cared for people. She was a very social person never meeting a stranger. Hazel enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, doing cross stitch, baking pies and making noodles at which she would sell her baked goods at the farmers market. There was nothing more treasured in her life than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Blum Simpson and her husband Lon of Nauvoo, IL and Nina Blum Coons and her husband Jim of Kahoka, MO, two sons, Van Blum and his wife Jennifer of Kahoka, MO and Daryl Blum and his wife Regina of Kahoka, MO, eleven grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Anna Page of Loveland, CO. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Dale Arden Blum, a daughter in law, Constance Jo Blum, one granddaughter, Shannon Carol Blum, four brothers, Harold, Claude, Clyde, and Olin Foglesong, and two sisters, Helen Taylor and Mary Foglesong. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 25th, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Clark County Nutrition Center or the Clark County Marching Band.
