Obituary

Harry Dresser, Jr. was born on December 12, 1917 in Montrose, IA, the son of Harry, Sr. and Mary Ella Wardlow Dresser. On November 5, 1938, Harry was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Tweedy. Harry had been a lifelong resident of the Montrose area and graduated from the Montrose High School with the Class of 1936. He was a dairy farmer for fifty-five years, and served on the Prairie Farms Dairy Board of Directors for thirty-three years, serving as the Vice President. He received the Iowa Distinguished Dairyman Award in 1971. He also served as a Director on the Iowa Dairy Commission, the American Dairy Association, the United Dairy Industry Association and the National Milk Producers Federation. After retiring from the dairy business, he focused on gardening. He completed the Master gardening course and was awarded the Outstanding Iowa Master Gardener in 1996, the first person in Lee County to receive the honor. Harry Dresser, Jr. died Friday, July 15, 2005 at his home at the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Montrose, IA, one son, Harry Dresser, III and his wife Susan of Montrose, IA, grandchildren, Tim Dresser and his wife Rona of Montrose, IA, Mike Dresser and his wife Ruth of Montrose, IA and Lynn Zimmerman and her husband Ryan of Imperial, MO, four great-grandchildren, Matthew Dresser, Brent and Rachel Dresser, all of Montrose, IA and Dayle Zimmerman of Imperial, MO, one son-in-law, Maynard Chaussee and his wife Judy of Midland, MI, their children, Scott Chaussee and his wife Cindi, Sharyn Chaussee, Kari Chaussee and Elizabeth Chaussee Lumbert, three sisters, Ruth Conlee of Montrose, IA, Eleanor Swinderman and Lois Cline, both of Keokuk, IA, one brother, Carl Dresser and his wife Margaret of Keokuk, IA, one sister-in-law Margeret Dresser of Montrose, IA, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Maribeth Chaussee, one infant son, Richard Kent Dresser, one grandson, Kevin Chaussee and one brother, Howard Dresser. A Celebration of Life was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Montrose Fire and Rescue or the Lee County Hospice.
