Harriet Evangeline Ames, 96 of Keokuk, lovingly known by her family as "Shorty", "Angie" and "Grandma Lynn", died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at her home.
She was born April 11, 1920 in Hancock County, IL the daughter of Harry and Leoline Kropp Schafer. She was united in marriage to Wendell Ames in 1941. He preceded her in death in September 1996.
Evangeline was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk and an honorary life member of the Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church Group. She also volunteered many hours at the Keokuk Area Hospital.
Evangeline was a skilled seamstress and created many beautiful pieces including quilts donated to Ronald McDonald House and doll clothes which were sent to a mission group in Kentucky. She was always there to help and assist whenever there was a need at her church. She gave unselfishly to others and was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Evangeline is survived by two daughters, Joan Coovert of Springfield, MO and Lisa Modlin (Gary) of West Des Moines, IA, four grandchildren, Missi Ferguson (the late Hoyt Ferguson), Stephanie Raney (Mike) and Jeff Coovert (Quincy) all of Willard, MO and Tyler Modlin of West Des Moines, IA, three great-grandchildren, Seth Raney, Callie Ferguson and Ashley Coovert, two great-great-grandchildren, Naomi Raney and Payton Brown, brother-in-law, Pooch Ames of Keokuk, sisters-in-law, Velda Templeton of Sturgis, KY and Ginny Barzilla of Evansville, IN, many nieces, nephews and friends and very special friends, Joann Cramer, Cindy Dunn, Marianna Derr and Alice Hawes.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Marvin Schafer and one sister, Etta Schafer.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at the United Presbyterian Church in Keokuk with Pastor Alice Hawes officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw, IL.
