Harold E. Weirather, 92, of Keokuk died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, IA. He was born January 12, 1922 in Keokuk the son of Frank and Anne Watznauer Weirather. On August 8, 1946 he was united in marriage to Phyllis Swan. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2011. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk. A lifelong farmer, Harold needed nothing more to make life worthwhile than to take care of his farm and dairy cattle. He actively worked on the farm until his retirement in 1987. Farming and his family were his life. He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa who leaves his family with a lifetime of wonderful memories. Harold also enjoyed square dancing. He is survived by three daughters, Sue Merschman and her husband Paul of West Point, IA, Tina Smith of Denver, CO and Betty Harple of Atlanta, GA, four sons, Thomas Weirather of Keokuk, Don Weirather and his wife Roberta of Amanda, OH, Steve Weirather of Lawrenceville, GA and Victor Weirather of Raymore, MO, eleven grandchildren, Kurt, Randy and Karen Merschman, Kasey Smith, Jared and Darin Weirather, Carmella McKee, Stacey Ferrin, Paula Conkel, Jorie and Ben Weirather, fifteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Frank L. "June" Weirather and his wife Ann of Ft. Madison, IA. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Theresa Erickson. A Mass of Christian burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 23, 2014 at All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk with Father Bruce DeRamelaere officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
