Harold William Sams, 85, of Argyle, IA, died Sunday, October 29, 2006 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. He was born on January 2, 1921 near Danville, IA, the son of Willie and Annabell Korell Sams. On January 22, 1944, Harold was united in marriage to Amy Brown at the Mt. Union Methodist Church in Mt. Union, IA. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Cary Sams and his wife Nita of Keokuk, IA, two daughters, Nancy Cree of Iowa City, IA, Cheryl Cross and her husband Neil of Des Moines, IA, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Harold graduated from New London High School in New London, IA with the Class of 1938. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WW II. He farmed in the Argyle, IA area, starting in 1949 and retiring in 1986. He was a 52 year member of the Melrose United Methodist Church in rural Argyle, IA, and a member of the Masonic Lodge of New London #28 AF.AM. Harold loved to play pinochle, listen to Hawkeye basketball games and was an avid baseball fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and cherished the times he spent with his family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Neil Cross officiating. Burial with Flag Presentation will be held at the Trinity Cemetery in Mt. Union, IA. Visitation with the family meeting with friends will be held on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Melrose United Methodist Church.
