Harold Lee Johnson, 82, of Montrose, IA, died Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at his home. He was born October 1, 1928 in Charleston, Iowa the son of Ira and Zoe Gee Johnson. On November 4, 1950 he was united in marriage to Rozella Kinkeade in Montrose, Iowa where they made their home for over sixty years. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Jennie Tweedy and her husband Rodney of Montrose, IA, a son, Tim Johnson and his fiancé Candy Stark of Montrose, IA, seven grandchildren, David Doyle and his wife Jenny of Donnellson, IA, Tim Johnson, Jr. of Ft. Madison, IA, Philip Tweedy and his wife Tory of Hannibal, MO, Douglas Tweedy and his wife Sara of Palmyra, MO, Jill Davis and her husband Andy of Lathrup, MO, T.J. Kunkel of Montrose, IA and Brittney Davis and her husband Brad of Hamilton, IL, fourteen great grandchildren, Taylor, Brandon and Ava Doyle, Drew, Jacob and Nathan Tweedy, Brent and Ryan Tweedy, Emma Bainter, Allie McIntee, Trevor, Morgan and Audrey Davis and Ava Davis, a sister Dorothy Hoffman and her husband Jim of West Point, IA, and a brother, Ira Johnson, Jr. and his wife Doris of Ft. Madison, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother John Johnson and four sisters, Hazel Kirchner, Irene Dauma, Annie Schlafke and Mildred Wagner. Harold was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1951-1953. After he returned from the military Harold worked for Santa Fe railroad as a stationary fireman for ten years. He then worked at Hubingers in Keokuk, IA and retired in 1991 after thirty five years of service. Harold had served as the Mayor of the City of Montrose, Iowa and had also served as a councilman on the Montrose City Council. He had been a volunteer fireman for the Montrose Fire and Rescue and served as assistant fire chief. He was a member of the American Legion in Farmington, IA. Harold loved working outdoors, whether it was mowing grass or cutting wood. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage, playing cards and gardening and sharing produce with neighbors, friends and family. There will be no visitation or services. Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery at a later date.
