Obituary

Harold "Bud" Atterberg, 83, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at his home. He was born on May 17, 1927 in Keokuk, IA, the son of John Charles and Georgia Mineyard Atterberg. He married Dixie Fleming on August 11, 1945 and to this union four children were born, Teena, Tonya, Roger and Tamara. He married Helen Newell on May 5, 1973 and her children were Tom, David, Mark, Cindy and Richard. In his younger years he lived in Colorado where he worked as a truck driver, hauling uranium from the mines. After he moved to Keokuk, IA, he was employed at Hubingers and Ideal Ready Mix. He was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Keokuk and was also a member of the Teamsters Union. Bud enjoyed trapshooting and fishing. He became an expert at growing tomatoes and sold the produce from his garden for the last twelve years. You could find Bud at McDonalds everyday at 1 p.m. enjoying coffee and conversation with his friends. He is survived by his wife, Helen Atterberg, three daughters, Teena Caldwell of Farmington, MO, Tonya Ferguson and her husband Hugh of Warsaw, IL and Tamara Christenson and her husband Tim of Camano Island, WA, one son, Roger Atterberg of Keokuk, IA, four step-sons, Tom Mullen and his wife Linda of Keokuk, David Mullen and his wife Linda Sue of Keokuk, Mark Mullen and his wife MinHui of Los Angeles, CA and Richard Mullen of Keokuk, one step-daughter, Cindy Lovell and her husband Kenneth of Montrose, IA, thirty grandchildren, forty-three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Alberta Piersee of Keokuk, IA, and Carolyn Kite and her husband John of Croton, IA. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Mahoney and Dorothy Shea, three brothers, John Atterberg, Charles Atterberg and Bob Atterberg, two sons-in-law, Raymond Caldwell and Gary Young and one daughter-in-law, Becky Kelly Atterberg. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Elder Hugh Ferguson officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.
