Obituary

Harley Renz Miller, 97 of Keokuk, died Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at River Hill Village in Keokuk. He was born December 12, 1918 in Keokuk the son of Emil and Mary Renz Miller. On June 25, 1947 he was united in marriage to Margaret Frances Kinnamon at St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk. She preceded him on March 6, 2004. Harley was a lifelong resident of Keokuk. He graduated from Keokuk Senior High School with the Class of 1937. He was an excellent athlete and a passionate golfer. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates right out of High School. But soon after that he was drafted by the United States Army. During his time in the service he continued to play baseball and basketball. He later attended Iowa State University in Ames, IA for two years. Harley was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his country during World War II, in both European and Pacific theaters. He had been employed by the Hubinger Company in Keokuk for thirty-two years until his retirement in 1980. Harley was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, BPI Elks 106 and the American Legion Post # 41. He is survived by one daughter, Margot Miller of Cedar Lake, IN, one son John Miller and his wife Debbie of Keokuk, one brother, Kenneth Miller and his wife June of Joliet, IL, two grandchildren, Travis Miller and his wife Angie of Keokuk and Jessica DeShaw and her husband Cory of St. Peters, MO and two great-grandchildren, Mia Miller and Jameson DeShaw. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one sister Lucille Huiskamp and her husband Carl Huiskamp. A memorial service was held at 12 noon on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Father Larry Snyder officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 10 am – 12 noon at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.
