Harlan Edward Ball, 82, of Donnellson, IA, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at the West Point Care Center in West Point, IA. He was born on March 20, 1923 near Donnellson, IA, the son of Emil William and Edith Elizabeth Schmidt Ball. On June 8, 1947, Harlan was united in marriage to Dorothy Helen Werner in Cataract, WI. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Ivan Ball and his wife Joy of Donnellson, IA, Stanley Ball and his wife Cheryl of Montrose, IA, Alan Ball and his wife Pam of Donnellson, IA, nine grandchildren, Ryan Ball and his wife Chrissy, Neil Ball and his wife Stephany, Sara Ball, Ann Canida and her husband John, Janet Auge and her husband Brad, Jake Ball and his wife Krystal, Jeff Ball and his wife Jenica, Maria Watts and her husband Jeff and Adam Ball, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Bettye Boley and her husband Gene of Cottonwood, AZ and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents. Harlan graduated from the Donnellson High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during WW II. As a young man he had worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for a few years. For over 50 years he had owned and operated a family farm. He also raised miniature horses and exotic animals. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Burlington, IA and the American Legion in Donnellson, IA. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre, and loved to watch baseball. A Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 13 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2420 Agency Street in Burlington, IA with Reverend Russell Kobs officiating. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Charleston Cemetery in Charleston, IA with Reverend Kobs officiating. A memorial has been established in Harlan's memory.
