Hannah Hammond DeVries, 68, of Keokuk, died Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa.
She was born January 2, 1948 in Keokuk, the daughter of Paul and Jane King DeVries.
Hannah graduated from Keokuk Senior High School with the Class of 1966. She furthered education and received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Iowa. After graduation she was a kindergarten teacher in Racine, WI. When she moved back to Keokuk she worked at Jack & Jill preschool and also was a substitute teacher at the Keokuk School System and St. Vincents School.
Hannah was a woman of faith. She was a member and reader at the Christian Science Society and Reading Room in Keokuk. She also helped support God's Way Christian Center mission by donating school supplies for local school children.
She had a crafters heart whose hands were always busy crocheting stockings, blankets and afghans for the school children and her family. She gave unselfishly to others and was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.
Hannah enjoyed playing the piano. She loved all animals. Most of all she always put her family first and was always available to help and share in the activities of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Sander (Heather) Brunnelson of Mulvane, KS, Nathaniel (Emily) Brunnelson of Elmwood, IL, and one daughter, Susan Brunnelson (Steve Davis) of Keokuk, five grandchildren, Lyllian, Alyssa, Alexander, Ryan and Cailey Brunnelson and one sister Martiena (Gordon) Haymon of Glens Falls, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
