Grace M. Nolte, 92, of Luray / Mt. Sterling area died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was born May 24, 1921 in Peoria, IL the daughter of Harry and Bessie Lower Gauwitz. On October 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to William Russell Nolte at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death in October 26, 1999. She worked hard her whole life living on a farm with her parents and siblings. She never had the opportunity to go to high school due to farm life living. She started working at the age of 18 with her sister at Bemis Bag in Peoria. She worked until she started her family being a stay at home mom to her daughters. After her daughters were school age she entered back into the workforce working at Barker Wire, Iowa Ammunition Plant and Fruehauf until she retired. Grace will always be remembered for her love and dedication to her family. She was a proud mother and homemaker who greatly enjoyed sewing, gardening, and keeping her family happy. She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Wiley and her husband Glen of Luray/ Mt. Sterling Area, one brother Earl Gauwitz of Washington, IA, two grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Grace was preceded in death by her daughter Darlene May Horter, three brothers, Harry, Charles and Leslie Gauwitz and a sister, Lavina Gauwitz, nieces and aunts. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril, IA. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time. Memorials may be made to Eastern Star Kahoka Chapter #40.
