Gordon Reed Gustavson, 89 of Keokuk died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at River Hills Village in Keokuk. He was born May 22, 1923 in Mendota, IL the son of Francis and Edna Masear Gustavson. On May 12, 1946 he was united in marriage to Helen Irene George in Athens, IL. She survives. Other survivors include, two sons, Robert Gustavson and his wife Patty of Aurora, CO and Dan Gustavson of Keokuk, two daughters, Diane Sparrow and her husband Carl of Jonesborough, TN and Peggy Peterson and her husband Doug of Keokuk, five grandchildren, Tamara Hoffstatter, Tim Hoffstatter, Wendy Croissant, Adam Sparrow and Tyler Peterson, several great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Carol Eden of Morton, IL and Vera Rodell Edwards of Springfield, IL, one sister-in-law, Bonnie Boggs of Princeton, IL and one brother-in-law, Larry George of Springfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters-in-law, Betty Coy and Wanda George and six brothers-in-law, Harry C. George, Gene Boggs, Jim Eden, Tom Edward, Lyle Coy and Harold Rodell. Gordon graduated from Athens High School in Athens, IL with the Class of 1941. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country in WW II. Gordon was employed at H&H Vending in Keokuk for twenty-five years before his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, American Legion Post #41 and served as a 6th Ward City Councilman for many years. Gordon enjoyed spending time with his family and was a faithful fan of his grandson's sporting events. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk with Pastor John Raab and Pastor Remi Panlaqui officiating. Burial will be in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Keokuk Area Group Home or the American Cancer Society.
