Obituary

Glen LaVern Stiverson, 70, of Keokuk died Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA. He was born May 17, 1945 in Clarinda, IA the son of Eldon and Lol Cinderetta. On February 7, 1986 he was united in marriage to Doris Balmer in Keokuk. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Doris Stiverson of Keokuk. He had three children with his first wife, daughter Michelle, son Paul and daughter Amanda. Glen also had two children with Doris, daughters Virginia (David) Burgess and Martha (Jerry) Jinkens, one step-daughter, Suzzett (Bob) Hoskins, many grandchildren, including Samantha Harrell who they raised as their own, David, Jacob, Joshua, Eric and Heather Burgess, Samantha Harrell, Brandy Sturm, Danny G.L. Burgess, Dalacey, Adam, Savannah, Storm, Rain and many great-grandchildren. Glen graduated from the Clarinda High School with the Class of 1969. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Glen was a member of the American Legion #41 and the VFW Post 3508 and was a faithful member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. In the early 80's and 90's he had been employed as a paramedic at the Keokuk Ambulance Service. He later had been employed by Summit Electronics and also by Watch Dog Security at the River City Mall in Keokuk. Glen enjoyed working with his tools and building things. He also enjoyed playing chess and fishing with his grandson, Joshua. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and trapping. Glen loved to cook and try new recipes and was known as the best cook in the family. He also loved to knit and crochet and his beautiful hats and other creations will be enjoyed by his family forever. He collected Avon bottles and enjoyed the thrill of the hunt as he searched for them at auctions and garage sales. Glen enjoyed spending time on the computer and snacking on ice cream and animal crackers Glen was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His wife, Doris, was the love of his life and his best friend. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk with Pastor Jason Mott officiating. Burial with military rites was held in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
