Geraldine M. Symmonds, 82, died Thursday, April 29, 2010 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA.
She was born on December 8, 1927 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Otto and Lillie Boone Oehmigen. She married Richard Symmonds on August 28, 1947 in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2001.
Geraldine graduated from Keokuk High School
She had been employed at J.C. Penney in downtown Keokuk.
She was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk.
Geraldine enjoyed many different crafts including sewing and painting. She had made many afghans and quilts for her family. She also enjoyed listening to music and playing the piano.
She is survived by two daughters, Constance Symmonds Brisby of Keokuk and Victoria L. Ruhs and her husband Larry of Elvaston, IL, one son, Hurshel R. Symmonds and his wife Sherry of Hamilton, IL, four grandchildren, Jered Brisby and his wife Kimberly of Hedrick, IA, Ian Johnson of Hamilton, IL, Justin Johnson and Trish Merydith of Hamilton, IL and Kori Symmonds and her fiancé Ryan Savoie of Keokuk, eight great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert "Gene" Oehmigen of Naples, FL, three sisters-in-law, Virgie Oehmigen, Pat Johnson and Jane Coffin and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Oehmigen, a sister, Ruth Jobe and a sister in infancy, Hilda.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Doctor William Barker officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with the family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice.
