Gerald "Red" LaVern Skow, 70, of Montrose, IA, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at his home.
He was born on October 29, 1942 in New Boston, IA, the son of Richard and Hazel Bernice Mason Skow. On April 10, 1966, Gerald was united in marriage to Kathryn Louise Littrell at the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk, IA. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Darren Skow and his wife Missy of Argyle, IA, one daughter, Denise Bryant and her husband Brad of Montrose, IA, three grandsons, Kole Bryant of Montrose, K.J. Skow and Kaden Skow of Argyle, four brothers, John Skow and his wife Judy and Herman Skow all of Argyle, Paul Skow of Montrose and Richard Skow and his wife Vicky of Peoria, IL, three sisters, Geraldine Coats of Pittsburg, PA, Helen Kemper and her husband Gerold of Montrose and Norma Curtis of Kahoka, MO, his mother-in-law, Gladys Littrell of Keokuk, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald graduated from the Argyle High School. He served in the National Guard.
He had been employed at several auto body shops in the area, retiring in 1991. Gerald also farmed for many years.
He was an avid NASCAR fan. He was also an enthusiastic fan of his grandsons' sporting events and school activities. Gerald was a loving husband, dad and grandpa who leaves for his family a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Argyle Memorial Garden.
Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Area Hospital Foundation, the American Heart Association or the Central Lee Sports Boosters.
