Gerald LaVerne Mason, 70, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on January 15, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Lawrence and Martha Jane Rowe Mason. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. Gerald had been an over the road truck driver for twenty-six years before his retirement. He had been employed by Bekins, Mayflower and Holland Trucking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and having coffee with his friends. Gerald was a loving father and grandfather and loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by one son, Steve Mason and his wife Lori of Keokuk, IA, two step-sons, Harry Finch and his wife Kathy and John Finch all of Keokuk, IA, one stepdaughter, Brenda Hines of Keokuk, IA, one granddaughter, Brittany Mason of Keokuk, one grandson, Trevor Mason of Keokuk, ten step-grandchildren, three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Margaret Coberly , one brother, Lee Mason, one step-son, Kenneth Finch and one step-daughter, Jacqueline Hines. A Gathering of Remembrance for family and friends was held on Monday, November 5 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the family.
