Gerald "Jiggs" Edward Haskins, 79, of Keokuk, IA, died on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on May 22, 1931 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Mervin and Glenrose Snowden Haskins. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1952 – 1954. He married Anna LeMaster on June 7, 1955 in Kahoka, MO. They later divorced. Gerald had been employed as a carpet layer at Rheinschmidts in Burlington, IA for fourteen years and at Streeters in Keokuk for five years. He also did carpentry work. Gerald retired in 1974. He enjoyed playing poker and having coffee with the guys at Hy Vee and McDonalds. Gerald is survived by one son, Scott Haskins and his wife Deana of St. Francisville, MO, two daughters, Carrie Haskins of Wyaconda, MO and Lona Starr and her husband Jim of Keokuk, IA, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one brother, Mervin "Bubby" Haskins, Jr. and his wife Linda of Barry, IL, two sisters, Ruthann Driscoll and her husband Ted of Davenport, IA and Mary Gusman of Davenport, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Laurence Haskins and Merle Haskins and two sisters, Patty Harrison and Virginia Pratt. Visitation was held after 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family.
