Gerald "Gerry" Lee Schevers, 68, of Keokuk, IA died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA. He was born on February 1, 1945 in Keokuk, IA the son of Albert and Goldie Marie Thompson Schevers. Gerry was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and graduated from Keokuk Senior High School. Prior to his retirement he was employed at the Dial Corporation in Ft. Madison for 15 years and the Keokuk Humane Society for 5 years. Gerry was a member of the Evangelical Free Church in Keokuk. He enjoyed building wood furniture, reading a good mystery book and Good Old Days magazines. He especially enjoyed taking care of his little Yorkie," Rusty". Gerry is survived by his daughter, Laura Lohman and her husband Jeff of Sun Prairie, WS, three grandchildren, Elizabeth Marie Cook, Linzy Kay Cook and Jacob Brian Cook, one great granddaughter, Isabella Skye, one sister, Gwen Elmegreen and her husband, Ron of Monmouth, IA, an aunt, uncle and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. Graveside services were held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 3rd 2013 at the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Keokuk with Pastor Richard Leonard officiating. Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Keokuk Animal Shelter in care of Jean Meyer or the Keokuk Salvation Army.
