Gerald Walter Egley, 87, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at his home. He was born on May 2, 1925 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Lewis and Magdalena Maurer Egley. He graduated from Keokuk Senior High School. Gerald was a veteran of the United States Navy. He proudly served his country during WW II as a Radioman Second Class aboard the USS Jerauld. He had been employed at Hubingers in Keokuk for twenty eight years and retired in 1987. He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk and held several church offices throughout the years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #41 and the VFW Post 3508 in Keokuk. Gerald is survived by one sister, Gertrude Egley, one brother, Elmer Egley, one nephew, Bruce Egley and one great-niece, Cesilee Egley all of Keokuk, IA and many cousins. Graveside services with military rites were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Reverend Lester Dumer officiating. Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Public Library, the Horner YMCA or the National Dialysis Foundation.
