Obituary

George J. Wiegand, 80, of Kahoka, MO and Harlingen, TX died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX. He was born March 14, 1933 in Canton, MO the son of George and Mary Logsdon Wiegand. George graduated from the St. Patrick High School with the Class of 1952. He was still very close to those classmates including Rita Kirchner, Lucile Hungate, Maxine Nichols, Dennis and Doreen Schutte and Father James Wheeler. Following his high school graduation he joined the Army and proudly served his country during the Korean conflict. After he was discharged from the Army he returned home and began his employment at Caterpillar in Peoria as a security guard for over 30 years retiring in 1988. George enjoyed many years of traveling, visiting people and places and making wonderful memories while collecting souvenirs along the way. He was also fascinated with watching trains. He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Kirchner of Wyaconda, MO, three sisters in law, Nina Wiegand, Geneva Wiegand both of Davenport and Gerry Wiegand of Ft. Madison, IA, special friends, Ray and Diane Byrns and Bob and Liz Noble all of Harlington, TX, and along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two siblings in infancy, five brothers, Bill, Jack, Sam, Paul and Clem Wiegand, one sister, Marie Kirchner and her husband, John Nick Kirchner. Mass of Christian Burial was held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at the Shrine of St. Patrick in St. Patrick, MO. Burial with military rites was in the St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Patrick Cemetery.
