George Gilbert, 71, of Kahoka, formerly of Revere, Missouri died Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk. He was born on June 16, 1938 in Canton, MO, the son of John and Sarah McCutcheon Gilbert. On November 26, 1958, he was united in marriage to V. Joy Hendricks in Canton, MO. She preceded him in death on November 11, 2004. George graduated from Revere C-3 High School with the class of 1956. He retired from BTR in 1992. After his retirement he worked for the Revere C-3 School District as the school custodian and retired from there in 2004. He was a member of the Freedom in Christ Fellowship in Kahoka and served as president of the board. He was also a board member of the Revere C-3 School and of the Peaksville Cemetery. George enjoyed farming and farmed most of his life. He is survived by one daughter, Rhonda Lee Mitchell and her husband Robby of Keokuk, two sons, Ray Gilbert and his wife Vickie of Kahoka, and Roy Gilbert and his wife Angie of Kahoka, seven grandchildren, Peyton Mitchell, Mabyn Mitchell, Moriah Mitchell, and Jacob Mitchell, Rhonda Jo Lance and her husband Wendell, Hailee Gilbert and Preston Gilbert and one great grandson, Tayden and one great granddaughter, Jaida Matlick. Besides his wife he was also preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Jeff Smith officiating. Burial was in the Peaksville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Peaksville Cemetery.
