George W. Denning, 84, of Alexandria, MO, went peacefully into the arms of His Lord on Friday, September 28, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 30, 1928 in Ft. Madison, IA, the son of William G. and Mabel Ridgley Denning. On May 7, 1948, George was united in marriage to Pauline Koeber. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Patricia (Steve) Crowell of Kahoka, MO, Kathy (Bud) Yoe of Shellsburg, IA and Joy (Frank) Wright of Wayland, MO, three sons, Kelly (Cheryl) Denning of Keokuk, IA, Wesley (Jeanne) Denning of Kahoka, MO and John (Sandy) Denning of Alexandria, MO, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, Mildred Lipper and Connie Dailey both of Burlington, IA, Doris Riggs of Hannibal, MO and Karen Hampsmire of Keokuk. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin grandsons, one step-grandson, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mary and Isabel and two brothers-in-law. George had been employed at Foote Mineral in Keokuk for 38 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA and loved to attend church services. He was also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. George had served as volunteer fireman for the Alexandria Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling and mushrooming. He also enjoyed visiting his friends and drinking coffee at Land's Gas Station in Alexandria. George was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa and loved to spend time with his family. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
