Gary “Porky” Alan Monroe, 76, of Keokuk, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Montrose Health Center in Montrose, Iowa.
Gary never let cancer define his final chapter. Even on hard days, he shared his quick wit. He built a fulfilling career in concrete construction in her younger years. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He possessed a rare, generous spirit and a massive heart, always opening his door to anyone in need. Whether someone needed a place to stay, a hot meal, or just a listening ear. Gary enjoyed playing pool and games with family and friends, but most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
He was born May 28, 1950 in Keokuk, the son of Henry and Valeata Amanda Rampley Monroe.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Heather Barnes of Keokuk; two grandsons, Logan Land-Parriott and Wyatt (Alysa) Barnes; and his siblings, Ron (Shelia) Monroe of Hamilton, Debbie (Jim) Amann of Hamilton, Dona Stansbery of Sugar Hill, Georgia, Doug Monroe of Buford, Georgia, Kendall Monroe of Lilburn, Georgia, and Brent Monroe of Hamilton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diana Monroe.
In accordance with his wishes, no services or visitation will be held.
