Garland Eugene "Gene" Cecil, 59, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on February 19, 1955 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Marvin Eugene and Noreta Mae Bourgeois Cecil. Gene graduated from Central Lee High School with the Class of 1973. He married Joan Casley on August 18, 1975 and they later divorced. In the early 1990's Gene moved to Florida and returned to Keokuk in 2011. He had been employed at Steel Castings and Griffin Wheel both in Keokuk. Gene was very electronically and mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on vehicles. He enjoyed watching car races and was an avid NASCAR and Dale Ernhardt fan. He had a green thumb when it came to gardening and took pride in growing vegetables, especially his wonderful tomatoes. Gene loved his family and his granddaughters were the light of his life. He is survived by one son, Michael Eugene Cecil and his wife Andrea of Tampa, FL, two granddaughters, Ava and Sophie Cecil of Tampa, one brother, Martin R. Cecil of Keokuk, two sisters, Debra L. Calfee and her husband Richard of Arizona and Diana L. Coop and her husband John of Casa Grande, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a wife, his parents and one brother, Arland Jon Cecil. There will be no services or visitation. Memorials may be made to the Raynaulds Association for research.
