Frederick R. McCollister, 85, of rural Canton, MO, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO. He was born on October 25, 1919 in rural Clark County, MO, a son of Charles Ellis and Mary Agnes Riney McCollister. He was united in marriage to Lois Briggs on April 14, 1947 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Patrick, MO. She survives. Other survivors include two brothers-in-law, Vincent Briggs and his wife Nancy of Kahoka, MO and Maurice Briggs and his wife Barbara of Garden City, KS, one sister-in-law Nellie McCollister of Sublimity, OR several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Doris Brennan and her husband Lowell, and one brother, Warner McCollister. Frederick had lived his entire life in rural Clark County, MO, where he had been in engaged in farming. He was a graduate of St. Patrick High School. Fred and Lois enjoyed going out to eat and having coffee with their many friends. They also liked to play cards and bowl. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus for 65 years, and the American Legion. He had served in the United States Army in WW II. Mass of the Christian Burial was held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Paul Hartley officiating. Burial with military rites by the V.F.W. Post #4342 and American Legion Post #192 was in the St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation was held after 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 2, 2005 with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO. There was a vigil service held at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, followed by a rosary service at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Danny Brennan, Jerry Miller, Sr., Jerry Miller, Jr., Ralph Ball, David Clark, Brett Arnold, Mark Arnold and Carl Hill. Organist was Ellen Krueger. Vocalist and guitarist was John Spray. Memorials were made to the Blessing Hospice, the Clark County R-1 High School Band or the donor's choice.
