Frederick Charles Hummel, 73, of Montrose, IA, died May 1, 2009 at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, IA. He was born March 21, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York the son of Charles F. and Helen Yost Hummel. On February 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Erma Jean Renner in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives. Other survivors include; a daughter Julia Hummel and her husband Joe Wren of Colona, IL, a son Stacey Hummel and his wife Michelle of Lowell, IA, five grandchildren, Nicole, Jordan, Micah, Colby and Mackenzie Hummel, two brothers, Charles Hummel and his wife Marlene of Delaware and Robert Hummel and his wife Carol of New York, a sister in law, Phyllis Hummel of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Brenda in infancy, and a brother Gerald Hummel. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Navy. Frederick was employed at the Dial Corporation as a supervisor retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Montrose Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts, the St. Barnabas Choir, the Lions Club and the boxing club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing cards and singing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Jim Eads officiating.
