Francis William "Butch" Wrieden, Sr., 79, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at his home.
He was born March 19, 1944 in Keokuk, IA the son of Francis Richard and Glenna Lois Howell Wrieden. Butch graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1961.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1961-1964.
On February 1, 1974 Butch was united in marriage to Mary Groves. She survives.
Other survivors include his six children, Francis "Butchie" Wrieden, Jr. (Angela) of Wapello, IA, Corina Carle (Rick) of New Boston, IL, Carey Wrieden (Jake), Bernell "Cork" Farmer (Melinda) and Tony Farmer all of Keokuk and Linda McNelley of Indiana, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by six siblings, Sharon Duncan, Richard Wrieden (Lynda), Edward "Jake" Wrieden (Carey) , Terry Wrieden and Chuck Wrieden (Tracey) all of Keokuk, Mike Wrieden (Robin) of Quincy, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Charlyne Sapp, four brothers, John, Leonard, Robert and Danny and one son-in-law Harry "Butch" McNelley.
Butch had been employed as a contractor and was the owner and operator of Butch Wrieden Home Repair in Keokuk for twenty-five years.
Butch enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching people as they passed by. He liked to dance and listen to "Ballroom" country and classic rock music. Butch loved the company of his dogs.
A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. on April 20, 2023 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Daniel Duncan officiating.
Burial with military rites was held in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation was held from 6 – 8 p.m. on April 19, 2023, at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
