Frances A. Galbreath, 90, of Keokuk, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Keokuk Area Hospital.
She was born on March 10, 1926, in Croton, IA, the daughter of James Jasper and Blanche Davis Dawson. She graduated from Farmington High School in Farmington, IA with the Class of 1945. Frances was united in marriage to John William Galbreath on October 10, 1947 in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on November 22, 1978.
Frances had been employed at Sheller-Globe in Keokuk for thirty-seven years and retired in 1978.
She was a faithful and active member of the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Keokuk where she sang in the choir and served as an usher. She was also a member of the UAW Union Local 444.
Frances enjoyed handcrafts and was always busy either knitting, crocheting or embroidering projects for her family and friends. She also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. While living at the nursing home she always looked forward to playing bingo. Frances was a great cook and everyone loved to come to her house to eat. She was a gardener with a green thumb and always had beautiful flowers in her yard. Above all else, Frances loved her family and leaves for them a lifetime of treasured memories
She is survived by her children, F. Marita Palmer (Dwaine Palmer) of Georgetown, TX, Loretta (Galbreath) Mapunda of Davenport, IA, Lorry Galbreath of St. Paul, MN, Renita Galbreath Hill of Keokuk, IA and Broc Galbreath (Shannon) of Keokuk, IA, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Alberta Dawson Robinson of Keokuk, IA and Marline Dawson Malcom of Ft. Madison.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, William Frederick Galbreath on April 20, 2007, eight brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor J.T. Brown and Pastor Sylvia Tillman officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
