Obituary

Flora E. Harper, 87, of Keokuk, IA died Friday, March 20, 2009 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk. She was born on January 2, 1922 in Alexandria, MO the daughter of Archie A. and Amanda Smith Otto. Flora married Murl Harper on April 22, 1962 in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1994. She attended school in Kahoka, MO and Keokuk, IA where she graduated from Keokuk High School. he had been employed at Swifts, Irwin Phillips, Sheller Globe, Kirlins, and Andes Candies in Keokuk and the Iowa Ordinance Plant in Middletown, IA. Flora then became self-employed as a salesperson for Audio Books, Westmorland Sterling Silver and Pennyrich Bra. She and her husband were owners of Flora's Uniforms and Nursemates Shoes in Keokuk for almost twenty years. Flora's most recent ventures were being Wal-Mart people greeter and a Keokuk Area Hospital volunteer. One of Flora's greatest joys was helping other people. Her biggest delight was spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of the New Testament Christian Church, the Thursday Ladies Bible Study and a past member of the Keokuk B.P.W, Soroptomist Club and the Genealogy Society. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sue Durham of Peoria, IL, a godson Robert Ainsworth of Clinton, MS, several cousins including Dixie Lee Showers of Bradenton, FL who was like a sister to her and Albert Predmore of Keokuk, nieces, Sherry Denton of Rex, GA, Rae Jean Miller of Moline, IL, great niece, Flora Sue Sherrill and her family of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Robert Hawkins, brother, Allen Otto, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser and Bill Abegglen officiating. Burial was in the Bluff Springs Cemetery, rural Canton, MO, Memorials may be made to the New Testament Christian Church, Keokuk Christian Academy or the Bluff Springs Cemetery.
