View Video Tribute Faylene Mae Graf Shark, 81, of Summerville, South Carolina passed peacefully on February 22, 2006 at Trident Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina. She was born on January 26, 1925 in St. Francisville, MO, the daughter of Clarence and Olga Hirschler Graf. After graduating from Donnellson High School, she moved to Keokuk and worked at Electro Metals in a secretarial and bookkeeping position until shortly after the end of WWII. During the war she became secretly engaged to Albert Shark on a spontaneous visit to San Francisco while he was on Navy leave. They were married June 16, 1946, exactly one year after the proposal and they settled in Keokuk, IA. Together they raised three children, Cheryl (Jackson), Beverly (Mojadad) and Bradley. In 1968 they moved to Burlington, IA and from there to Kirksville, MO; Lampasas, TX and Charleston, SC. Family was always her first love, followed by an avid interest in the game of bridge that began during WWII. She became a very accomplished bridge player and in 2000 was 1st in the United States in the Club Master Division of the American Contract Bridge League. Survivors include a son, Brad Shark and partner Don Sommers of Minneapolis, MN, a granddaughter, Jennifer Stone and her husband Barrett, great grandson Jackson Stone all of Swansea, SC, a brother Larry Graf and his wife Jo of Westfield, NJ, a sister Doris Grass of Mattoon, IL, many nieces, nephews, two son-in-laws and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, two daughters, Cheryl and Beverly, three grandchildren and one brother-in-law. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 28 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend John Tyler officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Homes of South Carolina, 201 West 9th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483 directed to the Music Program.
