Obituary

Evelyn "Babe" Uhlmeyer, 98, of Kahoka died January 19, 2018 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka. She was born August 18, 1919 in Gregory Landing, Missouri the daughter of Edward and Elsie Ort Otte. On November 30, 1939 she was united in marriage to John Uhlmeyer at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1997. Evelyn was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church and St. Martha's Alter Society in Wayland since 1946. She was a member of the Carnation Club in Wayland from 1946 – 2005. Evelyn was also a member of the Extension Club and the Valley Ladies Aid Society in Keokuk. She enjoyed playing cards, making rag rugs and laughing. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Evelyn is survived by four daughters, Maxine (Eldon) Bourgeois of Kahoka, Carolyn (Kent) Johnson of Hamilton, Linda (John) Althoff of Quincy, and Brenda (Mark) Kleinert of Keokuk, one son, Larry (Patty) Uhlmeyer of Taylor, eleven grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, two brothers, Chester (Helen) Otte and Robert (Mary Ann) Otte, a sister in law, Marilyn Otte of Kahoka and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, two grandchildren, Sheila Bourgeois and Timothy Kraus, one great grandchild, Kennedy Rose McNally, two sisters, Irene Smith and Dorothy Kirchner, one brother, Junior Otte, along with her in laws, Roy Smith, Lester Kirchner, Leo and Dorothy Uhlmeyer, Francis and Leota Ball and Lester Uhlmeyer. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Martha's Catholic Church in Wayland. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. Visitation was held after 9 a.m. Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with the family meeting with friends from 5 – 7 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Kahoka Cemetery or St. Martha's Catholic Church.
