Evelyn "Evie" Hogan, 85 of Keokuk, IA died Friday, February 10, 2012 at her home.
She was born Easter Sunday, April 4, 1926 in Montrose, IA the daughter of Keeler Anderson and Anna Collins Horne. On August 19, 1950 Evie was united in marriage to Joseph E. Hogan at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1991.
She was a lifelong resident of Keokuk and graduated from Keokuk Senior High School with the class of 1944. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary in Keokuk.
Evie was employed at Torrence Elementary School in Keokuk as a secretary for 34 years retiring in June of 2005. Her kindness and gentle ways brightened the lives of many teachers and students at Torrence over the years.
Evie enjoyed reading, scrapbooking and watching the birds, deer and squirrels in her backyard. Following her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her daughter Mary. Evie loved her family deeply and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, James Hogan and his wife Mary of Valencia, CA, John Hogan of Ft. Dodge, IA, Joseph Hogan of San Francisco, CA, Michael Hogan and his wife Paula of Keokuk, two daughters, Mary Hogan of Keokuk, and Anna Metsker and her husband Mark of Montrose, IA, ten grandchildren, Darin Metsker of Keokuk, Greg Hogan of Keokuk, Sarah Marie Hogan of Iowa City, IA, Erin Mack and her husband Erik of Alpine, CA, Joe Hogan of Ames, IA, Emily Hogan of Ft. Dodge, IA, Katie Ruedas and her husband Adrian of Ft. Dodge, IA, Sarah Ellen Hogan of Warsaw, IL, Christopher Hogan and Andrew Hogan both of Valencia, two great grandchildren, Destiny Elizabeth Huffman of Warsaw, IL and Citlalli Ruedas of Ft. Dodge, IA
She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Helen Moore, Dorothy Faber, Mildred Dodge and Lucille in infancy, one brother Dr. Robert Horne and two grandchildren, Andrew David Hogan and Elizabeth Ann Hogan both in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 13, 2012 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk with Father Robert Lathrop officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital or the Donor's choice.
