Eunice Marie Petry, 86, of Hamilton, IL died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Montebello Health Care Center in Hamilton. She was born on February 17, 1929 in Lee County, IA the daughter of Andrew and Mary Irelan Seiferheld. Eunice graduated from Keokuk Senior High. She married John Petry in 1947, and together they had four children. They divorced after 38 years of marriage. Eunice had been employed at Beeline Fashions in Elmhurst, IL for many years. She then worked as an apartment manager in Elgin, IL. After her retirement, she moved to Hamilton, IL to be near her sister. Eunice was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hamilton, IL. Eunice loved the outdoors. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the campground. Eunice authored and published a short, fiction novel and taught herself how to play the organ. She loved collecting clowns which was representative of her bright personality and great sense of humor. She will be remembered by her children as a loving mom who always made time for their activities. One fond memory is the time she dressed up like a witch at Halloween. She scared all the kids who came to the door. Her grandchildren were the sunshine of her life. She loved to take them on special trips and always remembered their birthdays. Eunice had a special knack for making friends. She never met a stranger. She is survived by two daughters, Cindy Krogsrud and her husband Chuck of California and Carol Schoen and her husband Glenn of Texas, one son, Mike Petry of Elgin, IL, grandchildren, Malea Conro and husband Larry, Lisa Birckelbaw, Kevin Krogsrud and his wife Kim, Phil Schoen and his wife Audrey, Dawn Boyd and her husband Brian and Heather Anderson and her husband John, great-grandchildren, Kelsey Duncan and her husband Mike, Makenna Schoen, Natalie and Charlie Boyd, Austin and Aiden Anderson, Sean and Zack Conro, Dion Krogsrud, Mya and Diana Birckelbaw and one sister, Edna Meinhardt of Keokuk. She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Linda Carr and one daughter-in-law, Lynn Petry. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Gene Baker officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, IL.
