Etta Ellen "Sue" Nichols, 94, of Canton, Missouri, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, MO.
She was born January 1, 1912 in Clark County, Missouri, the daughter of Lawrence E. and Minnie O. Hume Brookhart. On September 6, 1930, she married Leland E. "Jim" Nichols in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 3, 1983.
Etta enjoyed crocheting, reading, music and visiting with friends and neighbors. Most of her life she was a homemaker. In 1985 she received her GED. She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a daughter; Ellen Sterner and her husband Jon of Canton, Missouri, a nephew raised by the family, Ralph Lynn Nichols and his wife Sandi of Williamstown, Missouri, seven grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Marjorie Fern in infancy, two sisters, Doyne Clegg and Viva Nichols, and two brothers, Albert Brookhart and Ralph Weldon Brookhart.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. at Ballard Church on Route D in rural Clark County west of Neeper with Reverend Ernest Deatrick and Reverend Brian Stone officiating. Burial was in the Ballard Cemetery.
Visitationwas held after 1 p.m., Thursday with family meeting with friends from 6 -8 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO.
Memorials were made to Ballard Cemetery Fund.
