View Video Tribute Ethel Mae Thoeny, 99, of Keokuk, IA, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born February 3, 1910 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Arthur and Mary Jane Smith Ainsworth. On March 26, 1927 Ethel was united in marriage to Frank J. Thoeny in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1979. Ethel worked for Purity Oats in Keokuk for 20 years and then worked as a housekeeper for Mr. Mrs. John Sammons for 28 years. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk, the Moose Club, Eagles Club, and AARP, as well as a charter member of the South Side Boat Club. She was an advocate and contributor of the Salvation Army. Ethel enjoyed to crochet and embroidery and work jig saw puzzles. She also loved flowers and tending to her rose garden. She is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Rockenbach and her husband Gary of Keokuk, Janie J. Morgan and her husband Rex of Warsaw IL, two sons, Frank J. Thoeny Jr. and his wife Teresa of Keokuk, Ronald R. Thoeny of Myrtle Point, OR, ten grandchildren, Melissa Treatch and her husband Gary, Amanda Foley and her husband Clay, Craig Rockenbach, Holly Roth and her husband Jay, Jeffrey Thoeny, Thomas John Thoeny, Frank Thoeny III, Elaine Juhaus and her husband Mark, William Hart and his wife Katy, Barbara Hart, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Shirley Hart, one brother, Joe Ainsworth, and one half brother, Herb Yarrington. Funeral services were held at 2p.m. Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Geoff Mitchell officiating. Burialwas in Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army in Keokuk, IA.
