Esther Marie Steele Thorn, 82, of Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk. She was born on February 4, 1928 in Keokuk, the daughter of Charles Russell and Alma Bertha Cady Steele. On October 20, 1947, Esther was united in marriage to Fred Thorn in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on December 13, 2002. She had been employed at the Lee County Home in Keokuk for fifteen years, retiring in 1986. Esther was a member of the Calvary Four Square Church in Keokuk. Her family was her life's joy and she always enjoyed spending time with them. She is survived by one daughter, Connie Thorn of Keokuk, two sons, Keith Thorn and Randy Thorn and his wife Cathy, all of Keokuk, one daughter- in- law, Nancy Thorn of Keokuk, seven grandchildren, Lori Branham and her husband Stacey of Keokuk, Tim Thorn of Montrose, IA, Nicki Thorn and her wife Tracy and Adam Thorn and his wife Tanya all of Waterloo, IA, Heather Horton and her husband Dallas of Hamilton, IL, Blake Thorn and Tarizona Thorn both of Keokuk, seven great-grandchildren, Bella Thorn of St. Louis, MO, Sydney Thorn-Campbell of Keokuk, Zane Horton, Dalton Horton and Tira Horton all of Keokuk, and Dylan Dostart and Hunter Steven Thorn both of Waterloo, IA, two sisters, Sandra Jean Briggs and her husband Bob and Mid Wagner and her husband Bob all of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Steven Lee Thorn and Ricky Allen Thorn, her parents, three brothers, Charles Steele, Richard Steele and Russell Steele, two sisters, Lois Taylor and Liz Stedman and one grandson. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 2nd 2010 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
