Elaine Jensen Rovane, 75, of Keokuk, IA died Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. She was born November 14, 1929 in Atlantic, IA, the daughter of Jens C. and Agnes P. Jensen. Elaine was united in marriage to John Agnew Rovane on June 14, 1952. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2004. Elaine received her formal education in the Atlantic Public Schools and at the University of Iowa, where she graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Therapy. While in college, she was elected as the 1949 Currier Dorm Sweetheart Attendant. Upon graduation, she was employed as a speech therapist in the Des Moines public schools. She was later employed at the Speech and Hearing Clinic in Columbia, SC. After moving to Keokuk, she provided speech therapy in her home to private clients. She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, IA, where she served as a Vestry Member, Sunday School Teacher, and President of the ECW and the Altar Guild. Elaine was a member of the Keokuk Country Club Board of Directors and the Friendly House Board of Directors. She had been the recipient of the YMCA Layman of the Year award. She was a member of PEO Chapter LZ, the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary and President of the Mother's Study Club. For many years Elaine had been an active volunteer for Birthright and the United Way. Elaine is survived by one son, Steven Rovane and his wife Kathy of West Des Moines, IA, two daughters, Celeste Anderson and her husband Doug of Council Bluffs, IA, and Mary Weld and her husband Jeff of Cedar Falls, IA. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was very proud of her five grandsons, John Rovane, Blake and Luke Anderson, David and Andrew Weld and of her two granddaughters, Tamara McGahuey and Elisabeth Rovane. She is also survived by one sister, Darlene Gardner and her husband Joe of Maryland, one brother, Dr. Kenneth Jensen and his wife Millie of Clarinda, IA, one sister-in-law, Betty Jensen of Atlantic, IA and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney and Dale Jensen. The Holy Eucharist was held at 10 a.m., Monday, February 14th at the St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Bruce Blois officiating. Entombment was in the Chapel of the Holy Cross in St. John's following the Eucharist. Memorials were established for the St. John's Episcopal Church and Birthright.
