Edward Ballew, 84, of Keokuk, IA died Friday, June 25, 2010 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. He was born on April 19, 1926 in Glenwood, MO the son of Charles and Marjorie Welsh Ballew. On June 9, 1944 Edward was united in marriage to Inez Broadwell at Downing, MO. She survives. Other survivors include: one son, Richard Ballew and his wife Nancy of Donnellson, IA, one daughter, Barbara Ballew of Prophetstown, IL, two granddaughters, Jennifer Dawson and her husband Jim and Heather Ballew all of Donnellson, IA, four great grandchildren, Christopher Berg, Chloe Berg, Elizabeth Dawson and Emily Dawson, and one sister, Martha Kennedy of Dewey, OK. Ed was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated from the Downing High School in 1943, he than received his bachelors degree from Carthage College, in Carthage, IL and then received his Masters degree from the Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. Ed was the owner/operator of the Ballew's Texaco in Keokuk, taught business and history classes for 17 years at the Keokuk High School, owner/operator of the Ballew Tax Service and the A&B General Store in Keokuk, IA. He enjoyed golfing, collecting stamp and antiques. Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather and cherished the time spent with his family. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday June 29, 2010 at the Arni Memorial Cemetery, Lancaster, MO with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Memorials may be made to the River Hills Village or the Keokuk Senior High School Business Dept. The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA is in charge of arrangements.
