Obituary

Edith Verlee Templeton, 84 of Keokuk, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Keokuk Area Hospital. Edith was born May 23, 1930 the second child of William Leroy Horter and Alma Oletha Jenkins in Luray, MO. She was married to Howard Green Burgess, during the marriage three sons were born; Robert Lee Burgess, Amos Alan Burgess and David Howard Burgess. Edith later married Bill Templeton. Edith is survived by two sons; Bob and Dave, one sibling, Helen Pearson and dozens of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Alan, each husband, both parents, and her siblings: Hazel Schrieber, Eva Hobb, Stanley Horter, Vera Irvin, Raymond Horter, Ruby Stamper and other relatives. Edith attended Thompson School in Luray, Missouri through the eighth grade. She was a homemaker, also worked in food production, as a machinist and nurse's aid. The interests of Edith included, her family, music, reading, needlework, cooking and outdoor activities. Edith contributed to the church, Christian schools, law enforcement and the veterans. She was a member of the New Testament Christian Church. Her minister and close friend is Brother Bill Hauser. Edith leaves a void in the lives of those people that knew her. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Bro. Bill Hauser officiating. Memorials may be left to the New Testament Christian Church.
