Edith Waneita Murphree, 100, of Kahoka, died Sunday, December 13, 2015 at the Clark County Nursing Home.
She was born June 16, 1915 in Clark County, Missouri the daughter of George W. and Sheridan M. Gray Ferguson.
She attended Wayland Public School. She then graduated from Burlington Beauty School in 1949.
She was employed at Sheller Globe for 27 years and retired in 1975.
Waneita enjoyed gardening, needle point, and making hooked rugs. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an independent, self-starter and a woman ahead of her time.
She was a loving mother to her daughter, Patricia Ann Golliher of Wayland, her grandchildren who she helped raised, Cary Sue (Gitting) McGillivary and her husband Andrew of Greely, Canada, Shawn Murphree of Keokuk, IA, great grandchildren, James, Kinzie and Andrew McGillivary of Canada, and Silas Murphree of Keokuk, IA, her favorite sister, Fern "Sis" Hurt of Orlando, FL, along with four nieces, Joann Moon, Janet Ryan, Linda Smeltser, and Sheri Braxton and four nephews, Harold Ferguson, Donnie Ferguson, Gale Ferguson and Larry Ferguson.
Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond Ferguson, Raymond Ferguson, George Ferguson, Vivian "Mick" Ferguson and Virgil "Teeter" Ferguson, and two cherished grandchildren, James Kinzie Gittings and Sally Fay Gittings and a niece, Joyce Campbell.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Reverend Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery.
