Obituary

Edith May Denmire, 105, of Keokuk, IA died Saturday, August 16, 2008 at River Hills Village in Keokuk. She was born on January 7, 1903 in Amesbury, MA the daughter of Charles Arthur and Edith May Hoyt Peabody. On February 8, 1947, Edith was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Denmire. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1985. She had been employed with Employers Liability Assurance Corporation of London, England in Boston, MA until her marriage. She then worked at the Hubinger Company and Iowa Gateway Terminal in Keokuk. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose, IA, a 50 year member of the Malta Shrine in Keokuk and a member of the Martha Chapter #5 Order of the Eastern Star in Montrose. She enjoyed doing needlepoint and loved to bake cookies for her friends. She is survived by two step-daughters, Geraldine Denmire Harmon of Keokuk and Marcine Denmire Rhea and her husband Jamie of Niota, IL, five step-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren, ten step-great-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-great-grandchild, two nephews, Robert Ingalls and David Ingalls and his wife Beverly, a niece-in-law, Jane Ingalls and a close friend, Rosemarie DePew of Keokuk. She was preceded in death by one sister, one step-son-in-law, Gerard Harmon, two step-grandchildren Deborah Barnes & Greg Harmon, one nephew, Edward Ingalls and one niece-in-law, Lorraine Ingalls. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 19 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the Order of the Eastern Star or Trinity United Methodist Church in Montrose.
