Edith L. Coovert, 89 of rural Keokuk, IA died Sunday, August 14, 2011 at her home. She was born on September 4, 1921 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Irvin B. and Lilly M. Brower Davis. On September 4, 1939 she was united in marriage to Charles L. Coovert in Keokuk, IA. He survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Carol Duncan of Keokuk, IA and Patty Reiss and her husband Randy of Keokuk, IA, two sons, Keith Coovert of Keokuk, IA and Bob Coovert and his wife Judy of Warsaw, MO, nine grandchildren, Barb Coovert, Bill Coovert and his wife Jamie, Melissa Ferguson and her husband Hoyt, Stephanie Raney and her husband Mike, Jeffrey Coovert and his fiancé Quincy, Courtney Sands and her husband Scott, Joseph Duncan and his wife Misty, Micheal Gipe and his wife Carla and Tina Summers and her husband Chris and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Stella Means and Opal Miller, six brothers, Leotis Davis, Roy Davis, Henry Davis, Everet Davis, Ernest Davis and Elmer Davis, one daughter-in-law, Sherry Coovert and a great-grandson, Dillon Summers. Edith worked at S.S. Kresge and Holiday One Hour Dry Cleaners in Keokuk. She was a very active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Keokuk. Edith enjoyed singing and sang in a trio with two of her sisters. She and her sister Stella had the opportunity to sing on the radio. She crocheted, made handcrafts and was an excellent seamstress. She had made several wedding dresses for her friends and family. Edith always enjoyed family get-togethers. She loved children and babies and on occasion assisted in the church nursery. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Church of the Nazarene in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Jerry Miller and Pastor Paul Miller officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Iowa Hospice.
