E. Irene Hartrick, 87, of Keokuk, IA, died Sunday, April 10, 2005 at the Donnellson Health Center in Donnellson, IA. She was born on August 6, 1917 in Farmington, IA, the daughter of Harry and Bessie Lee Davis. On August 6, 1937, Irene was united in marriage to E.F. "Alec" Hartrick in South Dakota. He preceded her in death on November 6, 1986. In her early years, Irene had taught school at Sharon, Iowa. Later she was employed at Meinhardt Realty in Keokuk, IA as a real estate agent and then helped her husband Alec at Artistic Cleaners in Keokuk until her retirement in 1978. She attended the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, IA and was a member of the PEO. She was an avid reader, liked to knit and loved to play cards. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Irene is survived by two sons, Robert Hartrick and his wife Carol of Keokuk, IA, and James Hartrick and his wife Debbie of Hamilton, IL, one daughter, Susan Custer and her husband Larry of Bloomington, IL, six grandchildren, Shane Boltz, Doug Hartrick, Dean Hartrick, Michelle Gavin, Christy Weller and Brett Custer, eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Gladys Richardson of Wapello, IA, and nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Vera Mauser and Madeline Gingrich. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 14, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington, IA following the services. A memorial was established for the Alzheimers Association.
