Douglas Gates, 55 of Alexandria died Tuesday, November 17, 2020 died at his home in Alexandria. He was born March 16, 1965, the son of Ronald Earl "Duck" and Joyce Hamelton Gates in Keokuk, Iowa. He is survived by his dad, Ronald "Duck" Gates (Diana) of Alexandria, three sisters, Lora Trone of Kahoka, Michelle Bennett and Ashley Arthur of Keokuk, a stepsister, Michelle Lee, a stepbrother, Jamie Lee, both of Keokuk, a significant other, Vanetta Booth of Alexandria, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mom and his daughter, Sandra Burgess. Doug enjoyed working on cars. He got a great thrill participating in demolition derbies. Doug loved his pit bull dogs and considered them as part of his family. A graveside service was held Friday, November 20, 2020 at 1 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Social distancing requirements were in place at the graveside service and attendees will be limited according to those requirements. Masks were required. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
