Douglas Dains, 62 of Ft. Madison passed away Saturday, August 9, 2025 at his home.
He was born October 19, 1962 in Fort Madison, IA the son of Marvin and Donna Robertson Dains. He graduated from Fort Madison High School with the class of 1981.
Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy, including active duty during Desert Storm. His years in the Navy were a defining part of his life, shaping his character with discipline, courage, and a sense of duty. He cherished the friendships he made during his service and often shared stories of the adventures, challenges, and camaraderie that came with wearing the uniform. Serving his country was one of his greatest honors, and he carried that pride with him every day.
Doug had various jobs in his lifetime including, Vending Express, Pinnacle, Allied Blending, Heatilator, and Shearers.
He was an avid bowler always striving for that perfect game. He enjoyed comedy in all forms, but what he loved most is taking trips with Faith to conventions and concerts.
He is survived by his daughter, Faith; his mother, Donna Dains of Ft. Madison; two sisters, Janet Hissem (Keating) of Montrose and Linda Hewett (John) of Ft. Madison; and one brother, Ron Dains (Susan) of Millbrook, AL, and one brother-in-law, Jim Vermazen of Montrose, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, his sister, Vicki Vermazen and his life partner, Karrie Keester.
A memorial service was held 11 a.m. Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk. Burial with military rites by the American Legion Post #41 and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will be held in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service with the family meeting with friends from 10 - 11 a.m.
Memorials may be made to his daughter, Faith Dains.
